POSITION TITLE: VP of Engineering

 

LOCATION: Lehi, Utah

 

SUMMARY:

 

Owlet’s Engineering team is searching for a driven, experienced, and innovative VP of Engineering. The ideal candidate has experience in product development through validation and commercialization of consumer electronics and is passionate about innovation and quality. We are looking for someone who has led and managed engineering teams of 10+ and has experience setting up and managing quality testing and quality systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
 

Leadership

  • Strong understanding of organizational health and continued education in this area. Holds team members accountable to goals and commitments.
  • Prioritizes and organizes activities for the development, implementation, release and maintenance of engineering projects required for new product development and sustaining engineering of existing products
  • Provides clarity to the software, firmware and hardware teams in the areas of process, schedule and priorities. Develops and reinforces habits that maintain development best practices.
  • Performs engineering design evaluations and works to complete projects within resource, budget and scheduling restraints.

Technical Expertise

  • Ability to evaluate system architecture, system integrations and interoperability between hardware, firmware and software systems.
  • Ability to coach and mentor engineering team
  • Cross-functional ability to communicate technical plans and processes in a simple way

Quality

  • Develops, implements and maintains quality policies and standards with collaboration and input from the engineering staff and quality management team.
  • Directs and organizes the development of stringing quality software testing systems and release protocols to maintain product reliability
  • Oversees the setup and integration of product and manufacturing and ensures quality on the manufacturing line.

 
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BSCS or BSEE degree with a minimum of 7 years hands-on professional experience related to embedded software design and development.  Minimum of 4 years additional experience managing software engineering staff and projects.  Equivalent total experience or education may be considered.
  • Proven ability to manage engineering teams (10+)
  • Shows a proven track record of exceptional organizational and project leadership
  • Able to work within and manage multidisciplinary product development teams with a track record of on-time and on-scope delivery.
  • Able to multi-task, set project priorities, establish task focused goals and objectives for self and staff.
  • Experienced in programming with Object Oriented Development Languages (Java, Objective-C, C/C++) with exposure to embedded development.
  • Experienced using modern software development processes, including software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and Test Driven Development Methodologies.
  • Experienced in hands-on development and troubleshooting on a variety of hardware and software platforms is highly preferred.
  • Experienced in Quality Testing, Quality Systems and Quality Engineering
  • Able to manage engineering team in an agile environment
  • Able to communicate cross-functionally and deliver plans and timelines to Executive Team.

 

Reporting

  • Reports Directly to the CEO Kurt Workman
  • Member of the Executive team and will occasionally report to the board of directors.
